Our Mission
The Lord has planted us here to spread the Gospel
in Allen Park and elsewhere.
He gave us gifts and talents to use as we carry out our responsibilities of sharing the life giving and lifesaving Word and Sacraments. To this end, we commit our time, talents, and treasures
in service to our Savior.
As We Gather: Today we are brought to the threshold of Holy Week. This was the day the Jewish people chose the Passover Lamb. How quickly things can change in a week! On this Palm Sunday, we see Jesus enter Jerusalem with palms, a symbol of victory, strewn in the road and being waved. Yet it was from that entry that Jesus went to show His true love - His passion - by dying on the cross on Friday. That death showed His love for us. By faith, we believe what Jesus did was for us. Everything about us - our sin, our eternal destination - changed that week because Jesus took the road from palms to passion. Receive what Jesus did for you by faith, knowing your home in heaven was paid for with the King’s ransom - His own blood.

Processional Gospel John 12:12-19
The Holy Gospel according to the Gospel writer John, beginning in the 12th chapter.
C: Glory to You, O Lord.
The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”
Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to You, O Christ.
HYMN: “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” LSB 442
PSALM 24
The Earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.
For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.
Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
3
Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

The Old Testament Reading Zechariah 9:9-10
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just
and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; The battle bow shall be cut off. He shall speak peace to the nations; His dominion shall be ‘from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.’
L: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
The Gradual Hebrews 9:12a, c, 15a; Psalm 111:9a
With His own blood Christ entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever.
The Epistle Reading Philippians 2:5-11
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to
be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly
exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every

name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in Heaven, and of those on Earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
L: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
(During Lent, the Alleluia is omitted.)
The Holy Gospel Reading Luke 19:28-30
P: The Holy Gospel selection is recorded by the Gospel writer Luke, in the 19th chapter, with the 28th verse.
C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
... Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

The Prayers: We pray for those in need.
(After our petitions) Lord in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
With hosannas we come before You, O Lord of hosts.
We praise You for sending us Your Son as the King who came in Your name to establish peace between Heaven and Earth.
We are thankful that He did not consider Himself too far above us to become true man.
We deeply appreciate His fulfillment of the Law, which we are unable to keep.
We cannot adequately express our thanks that Christ took our punishment upon Himself by dying on the cross.

O Lord Jesus Christ, this day we confess that we have not always been faithful to our calling as Your chosen people.
The deeds of our lives have often not matched the confession of our lips.
We have often broken communications with You by neglecting prayer, by failing to study Your Word, and by failing to partake regularly of Your Sacraments.
Because we know, O Lord, that You are merciful, we dare to come before You, begging forgiveness.
May the assurance of that forgiveness, enable us to live lives of dedicated discipleship.
Send us Your Holy Spirit to keep us on the path that leads to You.
Help us to withstand the temptations of Satan, the world, and our flesh.
Grant us grace to live to Your honor and glory
So that our lives will reflect our eternal gratitude for the salvation You won for us through Your life of perfect obedience and through Your sacrificial suffering and death.
May Your kingdom reach into the lives of the sick, the disabled, and the lonely.
This we ask in the name of the King of kings, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Drawn to the Cross is a heartfelt hymn about repentance, cleansing, and devotion to Christ, expressing the believer’s desire to be washed from sin and serve God wholeheartedly. Centered on the power of the cross, this song reflects the biblical call to surrender, be purified, and find true rest in Christ’s redemptive love.
In 1855, Genevieve Mary Irons, born in Brompton, England, penned the hymn “Drawn to the Cross, Which Thou Hast Blessed.” Irons expressed gratification that her hymn resonated with those across various denominations. She noted, “I always feel that hymn is part of me.
The hymn gained popularity and was included in the Primitive Methodist Hymnal in 1881. Over time, it found its place in various hymnals, especially among Lutheran congregations in the United States. This widespread acceptance underscores the hymn’s universal appeal and its profound reflection on personal consecration to Christ.
